Today I present to you my 10 tips for working from home. I usually work from home at least once a week (before this whole pandemic thing started), just to keep a better work life balance so that I don’t have to do all my adult/life/house things on the weekends. It feels a little bit like I’ve been preparing myself for this whole time actually 😅I took a lot of inspiration from Ingrid Nilsen’s video on her tips for working from home (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDgckuEAqLQ), which I learned a lot from when I was first starting to have regular work from home days. I feel very lucky to have a job where I can work from home and not be too impacted job-wise by the pandemic. I know others haven’t been so lucky, so I hope that you all are practicing compassion and being there for each other during this time. This too shall pass (so long as we each do what we can to make this thing pass fast) 💖

So with everything that’s been going on around the world lately, more and more businesses are moving online and that means that more people are looking to pay you to help them. But what are the best online jobs that you can do from home this year, even if you don’t have that much experience, well I’m about to tell you.

Where Work-From-Home Jobs Are In 2021
Work-at-home jobs are no longer limited to multi-level marketing (MLM) outfits, like Amway or Avon. Improved technology and the need to cut costs and/or keep overhead low have encouraged businesses of all sizes and in a variety of fields to create more work-from-home opportunities.

How to Work Effectively From Home in 2021
Whether you’re working from home remotely one day per week (or more) or full-time—by choice or because of a health situation or weather event—it’s important to ensure that you are set up to be productive. This includes having a designated workspace with the right technology; ways of dealing with kids, pets, and other potential disruptions; and a schedule that allows for the social contact and stimulation that ordinarily comes from being in a workplace with others. Here are strategies and tips to be successful as a remote worker.

Know the ground rules about work from home jobs
Does your employer require a nine-to-five schedule, or is there flexibility? Are you allowed to work on public Wi-Fi? Which tech tools might you need, such as Zoom for video conferencing, Slack or Microsoft Teams for group chats, or Trello for project management? If you work for someone else, it’s important that your employer spells out the ground rules and ensures you have the appropriate equipment, such as a laptop, as well as network access, passcodes, and instructions for remote login, including two-factor authentication. Be sure to do trial runs and work out any problems that might impede your work. If you work for yourself, you may need many of the same tools.

Set up a functional workspace to work from home in 2021
Not everyone has a designated home office, but it’s critical to have a private, quiet space for your work. If you can, separate your work area from your personal spaces and use it just for work, not for other activities.

Get the internet speed you need
If you have kids, their FaceTiming and Xbox habits may slow your connection and download speeds. Moving as close as you can to your Wi-Fi router can help (devices that are distant tend to draw on bandwidth), or you can consider switching to Ethernet. You’ll likely need a dongle since laptops don’t have Ethernet ports these days, plus an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to your router. Wondering if your most-used website is down?

A new workplace survey by Engine Insights for Smartsheet reveals that working from home as a result of COVID-19 is difficult for all workers, but none more than Generation-Z and Millennials. In fact, despite being digital natives, fully 95% of Gen-Z workers and 93% of Millennial workers admit they’re having a tough time with the transition to working remotely.

Three-fourths of the U.S. workforce feels less connected than they did before the COVID-19 pandemic, reports Smartsheet, with notably higher numbers for Gen-Z (82%) and Millennials (81%). Moreover, since they started working from home, 60% of American workers feel less informed about what’s going on within their company. But, here again, younger workers reflect higher numbers, with 74% of Gen-Zers and 66% of Millennials, compared to just 53% and 50% of Gen-Xers and Boomers, respectively.
